[…] It’s only May but on Friday night, CCAS opened the doors on The Triangle, its 4th Canberra Centenary blockbuster. In a town where the Parliament is the local mill you might think a few artists would produce works that focus on politics. Well you would be right and Canberra has an excellent record in this area. Alexander Boynes curated an exhibition that takes an in depth look at what artists have been saying on some of the major issues affecting Australia over the last 40 years. Naturally its not all nice …. in fact hardly any of it is nice but it is on the mark and at the very least amusing. Artists, ALISON ALDER, ALEX ASCH, ROBERT BOYNES, HAM DARROCH, JULIAN LAFFAN, RAQUEL ORMELLA, JOHN REID, TONI ROBERTSON and BERNIE SLATER variously bag  governments and take the piss. No one is spared. There are works in this show from 1973 to the present day and its hard to tell what was done when. There is even one work which has been in production since 1982 but you will need to go to the show to find out what it is. Importantly, the issues are as relevant today as they were back in the day ….. make of it what you will but dont miss the Triangle at CCAS until 30 June. And there are more photos from The Triangle opening at Life in Canberra […]
