The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Canberra kindly invited our representatives to attend the Buya Subi Woven Textile Fashion Show and Sulawesi Cultural Show in Ainslie Arts Centre, hosted by the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Australia, H.E. Dr. Siswo Pramono, and Dr. Marsia G. Pramono.

This cultural program showcase the rich heritage of Sulawesi, Indonesia, with a special focus on Buya Subi, a traditional handwoven textile originating from Donggala, Central Sulawesi

Created through generations of artisanal expertise, Buya Subi weaving reflects Indonesia’s long standing traditions of craftsmanship and sustainability, utilising natural fibres and manual weaving techniques that have been preserved and passed down within local communities.

The program featured a fashion show presenting contemporary interpretations of Buya Subi woven textiles, highlighting how traditional craftsmanship can be reimagined through modern design.

In addition, a Sulawesi cultural performance  offered a glimpse into the vibrant artistic traditions of the region. The event also provided an opportunity for members of the diplomatic community, cultural practitioners, and partners to engage in an atmosphere of cultural exchange and appreciation.
